Overview

Welcome to Gorges Lodge: living on the edge, sleeping on the edge!

Gorges is unlike any other lodge you will ever visit. This is because Gorges is unlike any other lodge in the world; built on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, some 250 breathtaking metres above the mighty Zambezi.

Gorges comprises of ten beautiful stone and thatch cottages, dotted along the Gorges edge, in front of our luscious landscaped gardens. Each individual en-suite cabin is finished beautifully and boasts a private garden and decked veranda: the ideal place to watch the sunrise – or set – over the Zambezi.

You can also look on in amazement, as black eagles and lanner falcons soar overhead. Gorges Lodge is home to an incredible population of raptors, as well as a stunning array of butterflies and wild flora. Several tame bushbuck, baboon and vervet monkey also roam the grounds, in the hope of finding a treat. The main lodge is set in the middle of the ten chalets; teetering on the very edge of the gorge, built on a stilted decking of indigenous hard wood. The elegantly decorated lounge, dining room and bar offer extraordinary views, right over the gorge into Zambia.

Some people come to Gorges Lodge to do nothing more than relax on our decks and viewing stations, absorbing the incredible views whilst enjoying our yummy homemade cuisine and delicious African wines. Others choose to swim, read a book and wander round our pristine gardens; soaking up some of the most remarkable scenes in all of Southern Africa. And almost everyone who comes to Gorges finds the time to explore its incredible surroundings; being only a stone’s throw from one of the worlds Seven Wonders – Victoria Falls.

The lodge is close enough to the Falls for guests to enjoy all the activities the area has to offer, whilst being far enough away to create the illusion of complete isolation. The lodge is only a 20-minute drive to the lively town, and our private shuttle service runs several times every day.

The area offers almost every activity imaginable; catering for the thrill seeker, as well as the more relaxed holidaymaker. You can hop on board a friendly pachyderm for an elephant safari, or plummet down the Zambezi’s rapids on a white water rafting adventure. A sunset cruise is a great way to unwind, whilst a bungee jump will make your heart want to leap out of its chest. If you’d rather indulge in some retail therapy, the shopping for local curios and mementos is excellent – many locals carve, paint and weave their own arts to sell on the streets.
