Day 1 – 3: 2 Nights in Footsteps Across The Okavango Delta Camp, Okavango Delta

On arrival into Maun, you will be met and transferred by private charter to Shinde camp where you will the drive to your mobile camp “Footsteps across the Delta” where you will spend your first two nights of your safari adventure.

At Footsteps Across the Delta you enter one of the great, untamed regions of Africa, the spectacular Okavango Delta, and experience the astonishing contrasts created when the mighty Okavango River flows into the arid Kalahari Desert. The result is a variety of habitats, riverine forest, palm islands, permanent swamps and dry sandveld all with an unparalleled wealth of animal diversity. This Ker & Downey Botswana program maintains the elegance and eccentricity of the original 'African Safari under canvas'. The emphasis is on exploring this breathtakingly beautiful and diverse environment as the first African explorer's did, either by mekoro or on foot.

The Footsteps Across the Delta base is a comfortable private camp which accommodates guests in three specially designed twin bedded tents with sewn-in floors. Each tent has its own bucket shower and bush toilet, and even a daily laundry service. The 'bush kitchen' run by our chef, prepares menus to whet all appetites.

The Footsteps Across the Delta offers the highlight of a 'true safari' experience. No special training is required, as distances travelled resemble those of early days, where the emphasis is on exploration and discovery - each morning tracking fresh spoor to reveal the night's events. Other possible activities include game-drives, mekoro trips or fishing, which vary throughout the year.

Footsteps Across the Delta offers a personal safari experience, hosting a maximum of 6 guests at a time, making it an ideal option for small groups of friends or family. The emphasis on your stay at Footsteps is on guided walks where you have the time to focus on learning about tracking wildlife and understanding animal movement, patterns and behavior, as well as more in depth information on trees, grasses and the finer details. Being on foot instead of in a vehicle affords this unique perspective. Footsteps Camp is the base of our Young Explorer's Delta packages, which is a family safari led by a specialist guide that tailors the safari to suit children as young as 7 years old.

Day 3 – 6: 3 Nights in Khwai Tented Camp – Khwai Community Area.

After an early morning activity at Footsteps you will game drive through to the airstrip where you will connect with your charter flight to Khwai airstrip. Upon your arrival at Khwai airstrip you will game drive through the concession area to Khwai tented camp for the next three nights of your safari adventure.

Khwai is a private community run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game Reserve along the river Khwai. The Khwai River forms a boundary between the reserve and the community area. The river is the sole source of water for miles around attracting wildlife from afar. As this is community run all proceeds from tourism go directly to help local people and local projects through the Khwai Community Trust. This being a community concession, guests are privy to night drives which are usually not permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserve. Exploring after dark with spotlights offers you an opportunity to experience some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day. There is the added opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot and enjoy an up close personal encounter with the varied flora and fauna in the area. The vegetation here is quite different from the Western section of Moremi where great stands of leadwood and mopane woodlands occur in close proximity to open grasslands and the Khwai River. The camp has the romance of a mobile camp, where there are no permanent structures and everything can be removed to leave the wilderness exactly as we found it, having little or no impact on the environment. You will enjoy spacious and comfortable tented accommodation, with beds and private en-suite bathrooms in this remote wilderness area. This camp is furnished with bucket showers under the stars. Your toilet is also en-suite and is a flush toilet for your convenience.

Wildlife encountered include lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, as well as a multitude of other animals, including elephant, buffalo, zebra, hippo and giraffe to name a few.

Day 6 – 8: 2 Nights in Footsteps Across The Linyanti, Chobe Enclave

After breakfast you will depart on a game drive which will end at Khwai airstrip where you will meet your air charter to fly you to Saile Airstrip. On arrival into Saile Private Airstrip, guests are met by their guide. The luggage is taken ahead by vehicle to the first night’s camp and guests begin their three day walking adventure.

This is a mobile tented camping safari experience focused on walking within the private concession in the Chobe Enclave part of the Linyanti. This is an adventure that will awaken you to the heart beat of Africa and its true wilderness.

Distance walked each day will vary depending on the capabilities of the group and what their interests are with many stops for water, picnic breakfasts, lunches and many interesting sightings along the way. Each day the camp may move, dependent on where the wildlife action is. This is an adventure safari for those that seek to explore the wild and remote wilderness area on foot. Close-up safe encounters on foot with elephant, buffalo and lion are not uncommon in the hands of the best professional guides whose first passion is to interpret and bring to life every aspect of the bush.

Accommodation is in stand-in spacious tents with comfortable beds and en-suite private bathroom facilities. The Linyanti area is best known for its large populations of Elephant and buffalo that congregate in vast numbers especially during the dry season.
