Both camps are seasonal and close for the rains which start in November and end around February. The camps are re-built by hand ready to open for the season in May.
Itinerary
DAYS 1 - 3
We recommend taking an early morning flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe.
On arrival at Lusaka International Airport, connect with flight to Mfuwe Airport in the South Luangwa National Park. You will be met at the Airport by a representative from Remote Africa Safari’s and transferred to Tafika.
The usual routine is to take a long walk in the morning lasting approximately 4 hours. Starting early to avoid the heat of the day, the pace is generally leisurely as the guide will stop and talk about points of interest as you go. It is usual to enjoy good sightings of leopard, lion, buffalo, elephant and zebra, as well as Thornicroft Giraffe (unique to this area). Kudu and roan antelope are frequently sighted and huge herds of buffalo are abundant in these parts.
There is a huge variety of activities at Tafika whether and early morning micro light safari over the Luangwa, or for the more energetic a cycling safari is offered. Walking safaris, trips to the local village and much more. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the camp.
In the afternoon there is a walk back to Tafika Camp in time for a wonderful dinner.

DAYS 4 - 7
Guests will spend the morning at Tafika Camp, with all the activities on offer. After, guests are transferred to Mwanya Airstrip where it is a fifteen minute flight to Mwaleshi Airstrip.

Situated on a scenic bend of the Mwaleshi River 10 kilometres from the Luangwa confluence, this is a place of peace and simplicity, contrasted with stunning wildlife action. It enriches the soul and quickens the of senses. The remoteness of the North Park, an area legendary for its large population of lion, huge herds of buffalo and endemic Cookson's Wildebeest, is enhanced by the lack of roads. With just four thatched chalets built entirely of natural materials, en suite bathrooms open to the stars and uninterrupted views of the river; Mwaleshi offers you a genuine feeling of solitude and seclusion.
Game viewing in Mwaleshi offers you the opportunity to see Cookson’s wildebeest (a sub-species endemic to Luangwa Valley) in abundance as well as spotted hyenas, lion and buffalo. Hyenas in North Luangwa are renowned for their hunting prowess, something not commonly seen in the south. For bird lovers, there are birds not usually found in the Valley including some East African species: the chestnut-mantled sparrow weaver, yellow-throated longclaw and white-winged starling to name a few.
We recommend a day trip to the Mwaleshi Falls upstream of the camp which has been rated by one travel writer as a top highlight in Zambia.
DAY 8
Guests will enjoy a ‘bush breakfast’ before their final walk in the ‘North Luangwa National Park’.
Guests will then be flown from Mwaleshi Airstrip back to Mfuwe in order to make flight connections for International Flights.
