Overview

Sir Richard Branson’s, Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, in South Africa is located on the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Ulusaba offers guests the choice of two lodges, Rock Lodge and Safari Lodge. Rock Lodge is perched high on the summit of a koppie (rocky hill) offering breath taking panoramas of the bush below, while 500m away, Safari Lodge is situated in the very heart of bush life, along the banks of the dry Mabrak riverbed. Many guests choose to split their stay between both lodges and have the advantage of keeping the same Ranger and Tracker

Rock Lodge

Rock Lodge can accommodate a total of 16-20 guests in its eight rooms; two Makwela suites (Makwela Dusk Suite and Makwela Dawn Suite), one Rock Suite, one Master Suite and four Rock Cliff Rooms (all named after African tribes - Mali, Shangaan, Bushman and Swazi).

Safari Lodge

Safari Lodge can accommodate a total of 22 guests in 11 ‘treehouse style’ rooms – in the heart of the bush, connected by swing bridges. Rooms include three Safari Rooms, three Elephant Rooms, two River Rooms, two River Rooms with plunge pool and one newly launched Treehouse Suite.

Dining

Ulusaba’s international renowned chefs have developed numerous pan-African dishes influenced by many African cultures, flavours and spices. Breakfasts and lunches are organised ‘restaurant style’, while in the evenings guests dine together at communal tables at both lodges, comparing notes on the animals they spotted that day! Private dining can be organised for guests looking for a more intimate experience.

Activities

There are twice daily game drives, one early morning and one in the afternoon, both lasting for approximately 3 ½ hours.  The more adventurous may opt for a walking safari after breakfast to learn about the local plants and wildlife and for more in-depth knowledge on how to track animals. If guests want to take it easy, they can soak up the sun by the pools, read a book in the lounge areas or relax with a spa treatment in the Aroma Boma Spa. Energetic types can have a hit of tennis or work out in the gym. Others may prefer to go on one of cultural, wildlife or scenic tours, which include helicopter trips or a tour of the local community.

Cubs Club

Cubs (children) of all ages are welcome at Rock Lodge and will be invited to take part in Ulusaba Cub's Club. Because Rock Lodge is small and intimate, and because we know each Cub is different, we do not operate a set programme. Instead we offer a fantastic range of activities, such as treasure hunts, that we tailor to each child or group. Please note, infants are not able to go on game drives and children are not able to go on Safari Walks.
